Hi there, my name's Padraig Moohr, but I just go by Paddy. I'm a 19-year-old first-year student at Oregon State but dual-enrolled here at LBCC. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and am a business major. I'd like to take my major and hopefully work at Nike one day, more specifically, work for the marketing team for the basketball department. I'm very deep into sports. Basketball has been a huge passion of mine since I can remember, and my favorite team is the Lakers. On top of basketball, I'm a massive fan of the Dodgers, Lions, and follow the UFC pretty heavily. I'm most interested in learning about how the media works, and how it affects different people's lives every day!

TOPIC 2: THE INFORMATION YOU CONSUME

Paddy M - 4/5/25 I'd consider my three main sources of information to be TikTok, Twitter (or X), and the Wall Street Journal. I don't really consider TikTok or Twitter to be very reliable places for information, especially on current events, but I do believe the WSJ to be a pretty credible source. On TikTok and Twitter, anyone can post whatever information they want, but WSJ has very credible journalists, and posts very accurate, up-to-date news. Right now, I don't really have a method of checking my sources, but it's something I feel is important and will start doing, especially considering how much misinformation there is in the modern day. Week 5

  1. RIP! A Remix Manifesto showed how copyright legislation can occasionally limit free expression, especially for remix artists such as Girl Talk that sample music to produce new creations. I was amazed at how companies such as Disney lobbied to keep creations such as Mickey Mouse from passing into the public domain. It made me think a great deal about how challenging it is to be creative without violating regulations, even when you are not looking to steal. 2. I worry that strict copyright laws discourage young artists from experimenting with music, video, or artwork. If someone transforms material into something new, then it doesn't feel right that they could still be sued. There needs to be more clear protection for creative and non-commercial use. 3. Westboro Baptist Church protesting funerals is a case of free speech gone wrong. It's legal but causes real emotional harm to grieving families. That's an abuse of the First Amendment. 4.
